Distribución y habitat

Habita en Los Andes, entre las provincias de Copiapó y Cordillera (28°-34° lat. S), entre los 700-2900 msnm. Forma poblaciones dispersas en pendientes arenosas. Florece de agosto a marzo.

Características claves para su identificación

Pertenece al grupo de especies con hojas lineares, el cual también incluye a Chaetanthera albiflora (Phil.) A.M.R.Davies, Chaetanthera linearis Poepp. ex Less., Chaetantera microphylla (Cass.) Hook. & Arn. y Chaetanthera perpusilla (Wedd.) Anderb. & S.E.Freire. Se puede diferenciar a esta especie por sus hojas glaucas, flores de color blanco, tricomas translúcidos en la superficie de la hoja, brácteas agudas y reflejas y por sus capítulos angostos, cilíndricos y con menos de 20 brácteas (Davies 2010)
