Distribución y habitat

Restricted to hills near to Tocopilla where it has the most northerly distribution for any species of Copiapoa. It grows in rock crevices in arid habitats which are subject to frequent coastal fog. Here it is associated with cacti including Cumulopuntia sphaerica, Eriosyce laui, E. recondita, Eulychnia iquiquensis and Leucostele deserticola.
