Type citation

Based upon garden material raised from Chilean mericarps received from John Miers, who resided near Concon where the plant is common growing on pure sand. Neotype designated by Dillon, 2023: CGE05021.

Desert, Desert fog oases (Lomas), Mediterranean and Coastal matorral

Distribution and habitat

This species has an extensive distribution of some 1700 kms, spanning the Regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, Bío-Bío, Araucanía, Los Rios and Los Lagos. It is recorded from 5–20 metres above sea level rfrom near-ocean habitats and sand dunes and is rarely found in more interior habitats or at higher elevations (Dillon, 2023)
