Distribution and habitat

Three small sub-populations south of Concepción. It grows in coastal areas associated with remnant Nothofagus obliqua forests.

Conservation status

• Crtically Endangered: CR B1ab(iii); B2ab(iii) (Hechenleitner et al. (2005))

Habit

Evergreen shrub to 1 m tall

Key characteristics

Although this species was once included in B. serratodentata it differs markedly by having lustrous leaves below; margins coarsely serrate with 6-16 spine-tipped teeth per side and peduncles (inlcuding the rachis) 2-8 cm long.

Notes

Seed of this species is banked by the national seed bank of Chile, INIA.
