Distribution and habitat

Distributed in coastal areas from Huasco in Region III (Atacama) to Los Molles in Region V (Valparaíso). Mainly found on dunes and sandy lomas formations from 10–120 metres above sea-level.

Habit

Perennial, probably erect, shrub up to 60 cm tall. Flowers August to January

Key characteristics

Similar to S. pinnatum but can be distinguished by the unequal length of the stamens and it leaves which are larger and greyish in appearance due to a covering of the dense matted hairs.

Notes

Seed of this species is banked by the national seed bank of Chile, INIA.
