Distribution and habitat

Since its first discovery in 1854 by Rudolph A Philippi, this species has not been relocated, despite exhaustive searches by numerous field botanists. It is thought to have occurred in Isla Más a Tierra (Robinson Crusoe Island) in the area occupied by the village of San Juan Bautista. The introduction of herbivores probably led to its extinction.
