Distribution and habitat

Only known from the coastal mountains of Region Araucanía in Parque Nacional Nahuelbuta (and surrounding areas). It grows in open areas in Araucaria forest with Nothofagus from 1215 to 1320 metres above sea level (Urtubey, 2019).

Habit

Perennial herb to 15-40 cm tall. Flowering January and February

Key characteristics

This species is characterized by its fleshy leaves, orangish flowers, and dark floral bracts (phyllaries). It is most similar to H. gayana (Urtubey, 2019).
