Distribution and habitat

Restricted distribution around the coastal town of Huasco between sea level and 600 m. A classic location is in Parque Nacional Llanos del Challe. Locally abundant in the lomas zone and growing with other cacti species - Eriosyce villosa, Eriosyce napina, Eulycbnia acida and Echinopsis coquimbana.
