Distribution and habitat

Restricted distribution around the coastal town of Huasco between sea level and 600 m. A classic location is in Parque Nacional Llanos del Challe. Locally abundant in the lomas zone and growing with other catus species - Eriosyce villosa, Eriosyce napina, Eulycbnia acida and Echinopsis coquimbana.

Seed of this species is banked by the national seed bank of Chile, INIA.
