Distribution and habitat
Cistanthe lanceolata is distributed in the southern part of the Antofagasta region in lomas formations. It has been collected at only two localities along the coastal range, separated by more than 110 km. It is locally common on gravelly soils in open vegetation from 630 to 800 m above sea level. The associated plant community is mainly dominated by a well developed herbaceous layer, including Nolana elegans and Mesembryanthemum crystallinum, together with scattered low shrubs such as Bahia ambrosioides and Frankenia chilensis as well as Eulychnia breviflora (Ibáñez et al (2026)).
