Distribution and habitat

Occurs on both Robinson Crusoe and Alejandro Selkirk islands (Juan Fernández Archipelago). Common in forests, in shaded ravines and, less commonly, in open glades, on cliffs, and along trails (Skottsberg, 1922, 1953). It has an altitudinal range of between 200 to 550 m and often in woodlands dominated by Myrceugenia. Greimler et al. (2002) classifies it as a plant primarily of upper and lower montane forests.

Habit

Perennial, fertile stems 25-90 cm tall. Fruiting from December to March
