Distribution and habitat
This has a relatively extensive distribution in Central and Southern Chile in the Andes between 600 to 2500 m above sea level. It is often found in disturbed areas and in forest clearings.

Habit
Annual, 5-20 cm tall. Flowering December to March.
Key characteristics
Easily distinguished by its pubescent stems, pinnatifid leaves, and tetramerous florets (in fours) which is unique within the genus. This species is also the smallest member of the genus, rarely reaching over 20 cm (De Vore, 2004).
