Semidesert, Mediterranean and Mountain matorral & sclerophyllous forest

Distribution and habitat

This narrow endemic is only found in the valleys confluence of the Juncalillo river and Laguna del Inca, in the upper basin of the Aconcagua River between 2850 and 3100 m above sea level. Here it grows in rocke crevices in association with Chuquiraga oppositifolia, Nardophylum lanatum, Azorella ruizii and Berberis empetrifolia.

Habit

Perennial with flowering stems to 20 cm tall

Key characteristics

This perennial plant has glandular hairs, a creeping woody stems with shredded bark and a rosette of leaves. It differs from the other Chilean species of the Cheiloncos Section by having filaments longer than the anthers, an open corolla and conspicuous exserted stamens (Salas, 2026).
