Distribution and habitat

This species has a northern distribution in Chile from the Region of Arica to Region Antofagasta, from 3400 to 5000 m above sea level. It forms dense cushions in arid sandy soils (Finot, 2017).

Habit

Perennial herb 15-33 cm tall. Flowering from September to May.

Key characteristics

This species is closely related to Anatherostipa boomanii which also has a similar distribution in Chile. It differs by its glabrous floret which has no hairs in A boomanii (Finot, 2017)
