Distribution and habitat
Restricted to coastal hills and valleys of the northern half of Coquimbo Region between Fray Jorge and El Teniente, a distance of less than 50 km and with an altitudinal elevation of between 100 to 400 metres above sea level.

Key characteristics
The characters of this species are midway between T. brachyceras, which is smaller in all its floral parts, and T. beuthii, which distinctly exceeds it in corolla size and spur length. The two most useful characters are the peduncle, which is twice that of T. brachyceras and its stout, conical spur of no more than ca 6 mm long, as opposed to the slender equivalent of T. beuthii, never less than ca 8 mm. A frequent tendency for flowers to cluster at 'telescoped' internodes is also a helpful characteristic (Watson & Flores, 2011c)
